What’s POY?

Product of the Year is the world’s premier consumer-voted award for product innovation. Established in France in 1987, it guides 4.5 billion consumers to the best new products in their markets and reward manufacturers for quality and innovation in 44 countries.
The Product of the Year seal is backed by the votes of 4,000 consumers, serving as a shortcut for shoppers in the supermarket, saving them time and money. For manufacturers of the winning products, the award is a powerful marketing message proven to increase product trial, awareness, distribution and sales.
Product of the Year accepts entries every year from consumer goods that demonstrate innovation and were launched within the last 23 months. Participating products are then placed into specific categories such as food, beverages, personal care, household care, etc. with a product then being chosen as a winner in its category through a nationally representative face-to-face survey conducted by Nielsen.
Winning products are announced in March of each year and acquire the right to use the POY seal in marketing communications for 1 year.

Enter your products

Eligible products must have launch dates between January 2014 and November 2015, be nationally distributed, and demonstrate a meaningful level of product and/or packaging innovation.

Innovation does not necessarily be disruptive. It can be a new attribute that will serve consumers’ needs in an easier, better or a new way: a new package, a new function, a new formula/recipe, a new fragrance/aroma/flavour, a new technology or a totally new product…

Ethical Committee Preview

Once all products have been submitted, a panel of marketing, media, retailing and market research industry professionals are invited to review the submitted products to ensure that the innovation criteria are met before they go on to the consumer research. Eligible products become finalists.

Consumers Vote

Nielsen conducts a nationwide survey with 4,000 consumers to vote products “Product of the Year” in defined categories. Consumers evaluate the finalist products on criteria including product appeal, satisfaction, innovation and purchase intent.
Nielsen independently carries out the survey and reports the results in detailed analyses including category dynamics and innovation & shopping trends. All finalists are entitled to have the detailed analyses in their categories.

Awards Show

The winners are announced in the Product of the Year Awards Gala in February. This prestigious Awards Show marks the public announcement of the winners and the start of all winner activation.  The Awards Ceremony is the celebration of innovation & creativity where the Marketing, Media, Retailing and Research industry professionals meet.

We partner with the world’s leading market research company Nielsen to survey a nationally representative sample of 4,000 consumers in Turkey. The survey is designed for consumers to evaluate new products on the criteria including product appeal, satisfaction, innovation and purchase intent.

Yes. There is no limit on how many products from one brand can be entered, as long as they meet the criteria.

POY accepts entries for all consumer goods spanning from fmcg to home appliances & durables. The exact category names are determined together with Nielsen post Ethical Committee Review allowing comparable products to compete with each other.

Products cannot opt out once submitted. By submitting your product, you are providing full commitment to the program and any fees that may apply if your product is voted a finalist or winner of Product of the Year.
